Charging electric vehicles in Massachusetts could get less expensive under a pair of utility proposals now under consideration, but advocates are arguing for tweaks they say would make the transition faster and more fair.
On Monday, the Biden Administration announced a $20 million grant that will provide 50 new electric school buses for Boston, plus the infrastructure to support them.
The owners of 111 Massachusetts auto dealerships have urged the administration to back off on tougher emissions standards that would effectively compel carmakers to use electric drivetrains in two-thirds of all new cars in the next decade.
First up: Route 2, and Interstates 91, 495, and 195.
Massachusetts will need to have at least 200,000 passenger electric vehicles on the roads by 2025 and 900,000 by 2030 to meet the state’s decarbonization commitments, energy officials said last year.
