According to police, the train from Alappuzha was stationed at yard no. 8, close to platform no. 3, when around 1.45 am, the station master was alerted of a fire that broke out at the general compartment of the Executive Express.
The incident comes two months after three passengers, including an infant, died and nine people suffered burn injuries when a man poured petrol on them and started a fire on board the same train near Elathur in Kozhikode district.
