Anson experiences cyberattack; county services including phone, email affected

WADESBORO — The Anson County government experienced a cyberattack over the first weekend of May, which turned out to be more serious than initially thought. The most recent update from the county stated that does not appear to be any employee or citizen personal data compromised from the malware attack, but it did however limit some county services including the Human Resources, GIS Mapping, Public Health Clinical Services, telephone and email. Commissioner Sturdivant convicted of misdemeanor charge

WADESBORO — Anson County Commissioner Vancine Sturdivant was convicted on March 11 for injuring notices and advertisements from moving an election sign during the 2018 election. On October 17 of 2018, Sturdivant allegedly moved a Todd Moore campaign sign outside the Wadesboro precinct during early voting. Moore, unaffiliated candidate for Commissioner District 4 at the time, reported the incident both to the Board of Elections and the Wadesboro Police Department. Sturdivant plead not guilty. School board plans for two-cohort return

WADESBORO — Anson County Board of Education members gathered for a special meeting on Feb. 9 to discuss the outline of students returning to in-person classes in March. The board previously voted to bring students back to schools starting on March 1, but this special meeting allowed each board member to discuss their ideas and concern for how an in-person return would look.
