Anson experiences cyberattack; county services including phone, email affected

WADESBORO The Anson County government experienced a cyberattack over the first weekend of May, which turned out to be more serious than initially thought.
The most recent update from the county stated that does not appear to be any employee or citizen personal data compromised from the malware attack, but it did however limit some county services including the Human Resources, GIS Mapping, Public Health Clinical Services, telephone and email. Most of these services are estimated to return in one to two weeks, but there is no timetable for telephone service and the GIS Mapping tool, according to the government’s Facebook update. ....

WADESBORO A blue field of pinwheels in the courthouse field signals the arrival of National Child Abuse Prevention Month as the Anson County Partnership for Children hosts family-fun activities throughout April.
The Children’s Bureau within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services funds the month-long initiative and shares the importance of communities coming together to help families and prevent child abuse.
About 1.3 million children received post-response services, such as family preservation, support or foster care, due to the needs discovered during an investigation, according to the Children’s Bureau 2019 Child Maltreatment Report.
In fiscal year 2019, there were about 656,000 victims of child abuse and neglect nationally. North Carolina saw a decrease of 7,857 victims 2015 to 5,601 in 2019. ....

Vaccine appointments resume, Group 3 on standby

WADESBORO The Anson County Health Department continued with accepting vaccination appointments after catching up on a backlog of residents waiting for the Moderna shot.
On Jan. 28, the health department announced a temporary hold on residents scheduling appointments to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. There was about 1,200 residents on a wait-list, but the health department was only receiving 100 first doses of the shot.
Atrium Health Anson aided the health department on catching up with appointments. The hospital transferred 300 first doses to the health department last week and an additional 300 this week, according to Health Director Fred Thompson.
The assistance from Atrium Health allowed the health department to start accepting new registration forms for those in Groups 1 and 2. ....
