The FCHS Board of Education met for their monthly meeting last night. The board unanimously approved the tax levy of 4.94% for 2022, for taxes payable in 2023. A new grading system was approved by the board. The new system is the culmination of several years of discussion and research and involved faculty, parents, IECC, and retired educators. The new grading system should improve scholarship eligibility and will be implemented with this years freshmen class. The Fairfield Lions Club needs your help. Saturday, January 7th, the Fairfield Lions Club will be collecting Christmas lights that no longer work. The collection site will be at the west side of the Cornerstone Community Church located at the corner of Delaware and First Street, from 9:00 a.m. until noon. In addition to Christmas lights the club will also be accepting donations of eyeglasses, hearing aids, empty ink cartridges (no laser printer cartridges), cell phones, soda tabs, and keys. These items will be recycled and the proceeds used to help fund Lions Club programs throughout the state 44-year old Kerry St. Pierre of West Salem, was sentenced to a total of 30-months in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a term of up to 1-year of Mandatory Supervised Release for Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine in Edwards County. 34-year old Maria Rector of Grayville was sentenced to a total of 2-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a term of up to 1-year of Mandatory Supervised Release. 44-year old Anthony Crews of Ellery was sentenced to 4-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for Defrauding a Drug Screening Test in Edwards County. 27-year old Eric Shelby of Wayne County, Illinois, was sentenced to a total of 3-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for violating his probation on a charge of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine in Edwards County. 43-year old Deanna Wright of Grayville, Illinois, was sentenced on December 14, 2022 to a total of 3.5-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for Theft in Edwards County. The Illinois Eastern Community College District No. 529 Board of Trustees held its monthly meeting on Tuesday night. Chancellor Gower reported that IECC's Fall 2022 enrollment is up 1% over this same time last year. While modest, this marks the third consecutive term with positive enrollment for IECC. The Chancellor also reported about a recent trip to the Lift Center, a regional technology center available to high school juniors and seniors. IECC is exploring how it can better partner with area high schools to create pipelines to technical or vocational careers.
