A GREENOCK man charged with uttering threats and offensive comments whilst in possession of weapons in Port Glasgow town centre has had his sheriff and jury trial postponed. Anthony McVey, 35, had been due to have the case get under way earlier this week but matters have had to be adjourned for procedural reasons. A GREENOCK man charged with uttering threats and offensive comments whilst in possession of weapons in Port Glasgow town centre is set for a jury trial. Twelve prosecution witnesses are to give evidence in the case against Anthony McVey and all are 'required', fiscal depute Claire Rowan told the sheriff court. Greenock man 'shouted slurs in Port Glasgow while carrying weapons'

Anthony McVey, 35, is accused of making derogatory remarks in reference to race, religion, sexuality and disability. Prosecutors say he also smashed a glass door at the Spar shop on Princes Street with a hammer. McVey, of Greenock's Bawhirley Road, is also said to have had a rolling pin in his possession. The alleged offences are said to have occurred on February 19 whilst he was on bail. He has maintained pleas of not guilty through lawyer Marc Chambers. The case is due to call again on January 5.
