Archaeologists unearth remnants of ancient port city near Rabat in Morocco
Historians speculate that this site was initially established by the Phoenicians and later developed into a crucial outpost of the Roman Empire from the second to the fifth century. The fortified necropolis and the nearby settlements were strategically positioned along the banks of the Bou Regreg river, close to the Atlantic Ocean. Notably, artifacts bearing inscriptions in neo-Punic, a language pre-dating the Roman presence in Morocco have been discovered.
