Performing arts in Saudi Arabia take center stage in new development strategy

RIYADH: The Theater and Performing Arts Commission has finalized its strategy for the development of the sector in Saudi Arabia, in line with the framework established by the National Strategy for Culture.
It was formulated after an in-depth analysis of the state of the theater and performing arts in the Kingdom. The commission also carried out international benchmarking comparisons and drew on a number of knowledge sources, including more than 50 documents, more than 20 interviews with stakeholders and local and international experts, and opinion polls covering various segments of Saudi society.
The studies identified the challenges facing the development of theater and the performing arts in the Kingdom, mainly relating to: limited talent-development programs; a lack of basic infrastructure; poor funding; the low-tier technologies available for use in performances; a lack of advanced governance to help achieve higher community participation; insufficient audience-engagement measurement tools; and a lack of licenses for sector-related activities and professions.

RIYADH — The Theater and Performing Arts Commission has announced the completion of its strategy in line with the framework of the National Strategy for Culture.
Sultan Al-Bazei, CEO of the Theater and Performing Arts Commission, said that the strategy aims to advance the theater and performing arts sector as one of the main cultural sectors under the national cultural strategy.
He also hailed the unlimited support received from Minister the Culture Prince Badr Bin Abdullah Bin Farhan aimed at promoting the sector.
Al-Bazei pointed out that the commission’s main roles include: empowering sector practitioners by establishing a creativity-enabling environment, developing their abilities through education and training, besides providing motivation and support to unleash performances that cater to the Saudi audience's taste, become part of the established cultural customs, and introduce the Saudi culture to the world.

Wardha (Maharashtra) [India], April 18 (ANI): Genetek Lifesciences, Maharashtra's Wardha-based company, has been given permission to manufacture 30,000 vials of COVID-19 drug Remdesivir injections per day.
The company Gilead, which manufactures the drug, allowed seven companies to manufacture the injection.
The production of the COVID-19 drug will start in a week in Wardha. In a fortnight, 30,000 vials per day will be available in all the districts of the Vidarbha region.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has taken the initiative and obtained all the permissions in this regard.
As India reported its highest-ever single-day spike of COVID-19 cases with over 2.34 lakh new cases and more than 1,300 deaths on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting to review the status of preparedness to handle the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
