The Rajapakse government this week mobilised the military to break a national strike by thousands of junior hospital staff who walked out in a sick-leave campaign on February 24–25.
The blatant repression of health workers’ democratic right to take industrial action is a serious warning to the entire working class. Expressing his views to the media, Government Medical Officers Association Editor Dr. Haritha Aluthge states that if the public acts irresponsibly, strict travel restrictions will have to be imposed again in the future.
The National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) stated that among the 616 patients reported in Sri Lanka, 266 patients which is the highest number of cases were reported from the Colombo District.
From the Borella, 65 cases were reported, while 62 persons were reported from the Mattakkuliya and 17 from Slave Island.
Meanwhile, 99 patients were identified from the Kandy District, and 94 patients were reported from the Gampaha District. ....
