A team of senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) have reached Imphal to discuss the ethnic violence in Manipur. The officials will interact with both communities and their leaders to prepare a list of demands. The hill tribe is demanding separation of administration from the valley and removal of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The prolonged unrest, persisting for over four months, indicates that the government is neglecting its duty to restore peace in Manipur, CWC member Gaikhangam said.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh reportedly told a students’ delegation on September 27 that he is handicapped by imposition of Article 355 in the state of Manipur to intervene in matters of law and order.
