De Curaçaose minister van Financiën, Javier Silvania, ruziet met de Centrale Bank van Curaçao en Sint-Maarten om de cent. De directeur van de bank, de Nederlandse econoom Richard Doornbosch, heeft volgens de minister zonder overleg met hem besloten de cent uit het betalingsverkeer te gaan halen. De minister is het daar niet mee eens.
Hij vreest dat daardoor een stijging van de prijzen dreigt. Alle prijzen worden volgens het plan afgerond op 5 of 10 cent. Hij noemt dat onwenselijk nu de financiële situatie van veel mensen door de gevolgen van de coronacrisis erg slecht is. Woensdag ontving hij een brief van de Centrale Bank met daarin het voornemen, een dag later verscheen de brief al in de media. ....

PHILIPSBURG: - The General Audit Chamber submitted its report entitled “Mini audit: Implementation of personalized license plates” to Parliament today. The report highlights the possibilities of implementing an additional structural revenue stream; personalized license plates. Personalized license plates give the consumer the choice to pay an additional fee for a specialty license plate.
The report looks closely at Aruba as a benchmark island for personalized plates and investigates the structure in which they implement this. In 2020, Aruba generated revenue of over half a million Aruban Florin (NAfl.) in personalized plates. The revenue generated from personalized plates accounted for 2% of the total motor vehicle tax revenue. ....
