As the Severe Cyclonic Storm Asani moved towards Andhra Pradesh, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a red alert for the state's coastal areas in view of the storm surge, heavy rainfall in several areas, gale and squally winds, and local area flooding.
Cyclone Asani has changed its direction and is going to touch the nearby Kakinada coast, said the Visakhapatnam cyclone warning centre director Sunanda adding that after touching the Kakinada coast, it will come again to sea between Kakinada and Visakhapatnam.
