“An election is to hold the government accountable. The BJP is solely responsible for the medical catastrophe that has fallen on the country,” the senior Congress leader tweeted.
Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram on Wednesday held the BJP responsible for the “medical catastrophe” in the country and urged the people of West Bengal to speak for the entire nation while voting in the ongoing Assembly polls.
The sixth phase of the Assembly election in the State will be held on April 22.
“An election is to hold the government accountable. The BJP is solely responsible for the medical catastrophe that has fallen on the country. The hopes of the entire nation are in the hands of the voters of [West] Bengal,” Mr. Chidambaram tweeted. ....

EC likely to appoint 500 observes for West Bengal assembly polls

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], March 4 (ANI): The Election Commission of India (ECI) is likely to appoint around 500 observers in West Bengal for strict monitoring of the forthcoming Assembly polls.
Discussions are underway for the appointment of around 500 observers in poll-bound West Bengal, details are yet to come, an ECI official told ANI.
According to ECI official, Ajay V Nayek, a 1984 batch retired IAS officer is appointed as the special general observer. Vivek Dubey, a 1981 batch officer from Andhra Pradesh cadre and Mrinal Kanti Das, a retired 1977 batch IPS officer of Manipur-Tripura cadre have been appointed as special police observers. B Murli Kumar, a 1983 batch retired IRS officer has been appointed as special expenditure observer. ....

Kolkata: Facing a resurgent BJP as the main challenger in the upcoming assembly polls, West Bengal s ruling Trinamool Congress on Saturday unveiled a poll slogan- Bangla Nijer Meyekei Chaye , portraying Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as its mascot with focus on women voters and Bengali sub-nationalism.
The slogan, which translates to Bengal wants its own daughter , presents the transformation from her popular image of didi (elder sister) to Nijer Meye (own daughter), was officially launched at the party s headquarters off EM Bypass. ....
