The French government is providing exceptional financial aid for nine former Senegalese skirmishers, aged between 85 and 96, to return to their country of origin permanently without losing their minimum old-age allowance. The men served in the French army during decolonisation wars, mainly in Indochina and Algeria. The measure was previously unavailable to the men who had to spend six months each year in France to receive the allowance.
