Atari creates new blockchain division amid leadership shuffle

Atari has announced the creation of a new blockchain division as part of an organizational shuffle within the company.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the gaming behemoth revealed the creation of two new divisions — Atari Gaming and Atari Blockchain.
The former will focus on continuing the developmental work on Atari’s catalog of popular retro gaming titles as well as the rebooted VCS consoles.
As part of the announcement, Atari also revealed that current CEO Frédéric Chesnais will head the Atari blockchain division, while Wade J. Rosen will take over as the new company chief executive. Before the announcement, Rosen was the chairman of Atari’s board of directors.

Atari has established two divisions with very different focuses and, as a result, now has a new CEO at the helm.
The retro-aligned company announced the shift this week, noting that it has established Atari Gaming and Atari Blockchain to group its two main business focuses into their own divisions.
As part of that, now-former CEO Frédéric Chesnais has stepped down in order to focus entirely on Atari's blockchain dealings and licensing. In his place, board chairman Wade J. Rosen has stepped in as CEO.
The new Atari Gaming division aims to focus on expanding the market of retro games, and will specifically see the company license its brands in games (as well as in the hotel and casino business), continue to develop free-to-play mobile games, and revitalize classic Atari IP with an expansion into the console and PC market.

The crypto brand RTFKT Studios continued to dominate the NFT fashion space this past week by dropping a new sneaker collaboration with Atari. The news comes on a day when Gucci became the first luxury stalwart to release its own digital sneaker with fashion-tech company Wanna.
The star shoe of the series, the “Shiny Edition,” is an edition of 1 sneaker that looks something like a purple slip-on version of an Atari console. Six artists were commissioned to create the other six sneakers in the series that became available on the auction site Rarible last Thursday, in editions of 50 (partially done to promote the Atari Token). Although the shoes are only available as NFTs, you can still try them on using Snapchat, or the MetaverseMe App, to make sure they fit your online persona.
