The Auburn City Schools Board of Education unanimously approved the name recommendation at its Tuesday meeting. Superintendent Cristen Herring said a committee of stakeholders was brought together to decide on a name for the new elementary school, as per district policy. âAfter thoughtful consideration of the geographical references on the north side of town, important names in our community and other factors, the committee reached an agreement and presented this recommendation,â Herring said before the 5-0 vote. The new elementary school will be located at 1565 W. Farmville Road. It will be the tenth elementary school in Auburnâs school system, and teach up to 600 students in kindergarten through second grade. ....

Here are the Alabama 2021-22 Teacher of the Year finalists Updated May 11, 2021; Reflecting on his experiences as the most recent finalist, and Alabama’s current Teacher of the Year, Dr. Andrew Jackson said, “Congratulations to these highly skilled educators, who have been selected to represent their local school systems and our regional education districts. Each of these Alabama Teacher of the Year 16 Finalists truly demonstrate outstanding classroom leadership and are elevating our profession to new levels of success.” The pool of candidates will be narrowed to the top four by a state-level committee. Auburn City Schools is poised to acquire some new property, but what that property will be used for has yet to be determined. The Auburn City Schools Board of Education voted 5-0 to approve a property purchase agreement between the Board and Owens Family Partnership LLC for 128 acres located east of North Donahue Drive. Superintendent Cristen Herring asked for permission to execute the agreement, in the amount of $5.2 million, on behalf of the school board. A roughly 45-minute-long executive session was subsequently held to discuss the motion. The motion was approved during the regular meeting, following the executive session. Board members did not publicly discuss the motion before the vote. ....
