I am a member of the Augusta County Railroad Club which operated as the Augusta County Railroad Museum at the Staunton Mall. Like other occupants, we were completely blindsided by the request to vacate in 30 days. Because of COVID-19, for the safety of our members and the public, we decided to close for the duration of the pandemic.
However, a number of retailers were still open and operating, and I can only imagine how difficult it was to receive the notice this time of year which so many depend on for the majority of their sales.
As reported in this paper, the owners are developing a plan for the property but have apparently not received approval from Augusta County nor to my knowledge have received a permit to demolish the structure.
