Avasant Foundation Trains Guyanese Youth on Critical Digital Skills

On June 30, 2021, the Avasant Foundation, funded by the Inter-American Development Bank LAB (IDB LAB), graduated 60 students from its Digital Skills Training Program in Guyana. The training program included literacy and numerical modules in which students’ knowledge gaps were leveled in the language and mathematics skills needed to understand the digital ecosystem. The social component of the training provided students with skills for communication, sales and marketing, customer service, and leaderships critical to prosper in any industry. The technical component of the training-built skills in high demand in the global economy across all sectors and at high demand in the Guyanese labor market, including training in the Microsoft Office 365 suite, UX design, web design and development, mobile applications, master data management, project management, and eEntrepreneurship. ....

As many as 40% of Bahamian workers were either unemployed or facing furloughs in September of last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A larger digital workforce could help the economy in the Bahamas, largely based on tourism, to grow and diversify.
