countries these days. the turnout so far has been pretty good according to the electoral commission. we expect to hear more when the polls close. they re expected to close in about two hours. possible extensions to that. so far we are told more voters than expected have turned out. who s on the ballot today? well, that is one of the key issues here, gary, is people are overwhelmed by the choice. thousands of candidates are running in this election for the national congress. most of them are virtually unknown to the libyan population who, for more than 40 years, knew one man only, moammar gadhafi, and today, his picture was replaced by the pictures of thousands of people. some are individual candidates running, others are representing more than 300 political entity, islamists, liberals, different political groupings. end of the day, gary, they have to work together, no matter who emerges from this election and it s very hard to tell with no real polling who will come ....

dangerous situation for those suffering through record-breaking heat. triple digit temperatures are making life absolutely miserable for about 100 million americans this weekend. that s about a third of our population. here s a look at today s predicted highs across the united states. let s go first to cnn s reporter live in atlanta in a cooling center where the heat is expected, nick, to hit 106 degrees. that makes me think back to the record here in atlanta in 2007. let s talk about how dangerous this is and what officials are doing. i know there are officials in missouri investigating three deaths that may be caused by heat already. this is a massive situation across atlanta. 22 states affected by this heat advisory. we have everywhere from little rock, arkansas, to greensboro, north carolina. i believe we have video of greensboro, north carolina, under that excessive heat warning. and in little rock, i m sorry, tulgsa, oklahoma, they re handing out portable air-co ....

storm force strength. you can see just to the exterior of the storm we had 17-mile-per-hour winds and the wind speed now being clocked at 60. we re likely to get this as a tropical storm very soon. we re waiting on the advisories. once we have that we will be able to get a much better picture. this is the current spaghetti model plot. we call it that because the lines look like spaghetti. they actually indicate quite a divergence and where some models are taking the storm, westward to texas or to the eastward into florida. it s really interesting. you don t even see anymore that are going straight to the north. they re going one way or the other depending on whether the storm will get picked up by a trough to the north and steered in that direction. all indications are that s likely what will happen because you can see a lot of strong winds right now are to the north and east of where the storm is located. we re already getting stronger winds in the new orleans area. he ....

deliberating 21 hours. and this was the reaction outside the courthouse.
