good morning. and welcome to way too early. on this friday, august 19th. friday, folks. we made it. i m jonathan lemire. thanks for starting your day with us. the federal judge deciding whether to unseal the affidavit in the unprecedented search of mar-a-lago appeared to stake out the middle ground yesterday. saying he is inclined to unseal it, the magistrate judge gave the justice department until next thursday to submit redactions. in a written ruling, the judge stated, the government has not met its burden of showing that the entire affidavit should remain sealed. the judge said he would review the proposed reactions and then, redactions and decide if he agrees. he could not give a time line beyond next thursday saying quote this is going to be a considered careful process. the the government had argued against unsailing the affidavit laming it would jeopardize its investigation, and because it contains quote substantial grand jury information with national securit ....

Security overtones. the justice department also indicated for the first time yesterday that more than one person inside trump s orbit could be working with the government, stating, the court is aware of what several witnesses said. only certain people would have that knowledge. trump again yesterday called for the full affidavit to be released, without redactions, but his legal team did not file anything in the case or participate in the hearing. one of his attorneys, christina bobb was in court but said she was just there to watch. joining us now, to talk about this is, msnbc legal analyst danny cevallos. thanks for being here this morning. we could use your expertise. when a federal judge says he is inclined to unseal parts of the affidavit and the government has an order to submit redactions, what is your reaction to the ruling yesterday? i envision the d.o.j. attorneys going back to their office, shutting the door and ....
90% conviction rating. they re very good at they do because they keep it secret until they absolutely know they have their man. and this could certainly stwrech out for a couple of weeks before we realize what will happen. lastly, what do you make of the trump strategy, he has been publicly saying we want the whole thing out, release the whole affidavit, but no actual corresponding legal moves, they didn t file any papers. they realize legally this may not be a good outcouple but politics optics, this is something to do, pound the podium, pound their fists, knowing that this is transparency and knowing that they probable won t win and knowing the important stuff won t be released but they come off as the team of transparency and being open and why is the government being so secret and hiding all of this information? it is actually quite clever politically, but likely with them winning, in fact, they must have been surprised that they ....
Impact of the search will be as we look toward november? i can tell you, jonathan, i know you re having these same conversations, that a lot of republicans think this is a reset for president trump. people who thought that florida governor ron desantis was moving into the pole position now think president trump is back. there s huge stakes for the justice department. when we see what they have, what they got, what they knew, will that clear the bar? will it pass the man in the bar test of what would have been reasonable? it s reengaged both sides. you just saw a graphic there from the axios visuals team. we were asking ourselves, as we saw these photos and documents come out of mar-a-lago, why is so much of this on literal paper? why is this printed out and in boxes behind a padlock in the era of the cloud and in the era of digital security? ....
