The Patanjali Ayurved case saw the Supreme Court bring FMCG companies into the picture on misleading claims made in advertisements
Dr Jayesh Lele, honorary secretary general of the Indian Medical Association, explains why the Supreme Court’s actions against Patanjali have come late and what more needs to be done
The Supreme Court had questioned whether the size of the apology published in newspapers by Patanjali matched the size of full-page advertisements for its products.
They managed to secure a personal loan from their followers, Sunita and Sarwan Sam Poddar.
Hearing the Patanjali misleading advertisement case, the Supreme Court asked whether the apology published by Patanjali Ayurved was as big as the advertisements. The apex court asked Patanjali to produce original paper cuttings of the apology during the next hearing. Both Ramdev and Balkrishna were present in the court for the hearing.
