In its notice issued April 26, 2021, NERC had stated: “Accordingly, this notice is issued to inform the general public and industry stakeholders of the Commission’s intention to conclude the Extraordinary Tariff Review process for the eleven DisCos, commence the processes for the July 2021 Minor Review of MYTO – 2020 to consider changes in inflation, foreign exchange, gas prices, available generation capacity, and CAPEX required to evacuate and distribute the said available generation capacity in accordance with EPSRA and other extant industry rules. ....
By Udeme Akpan THE rig count of Nigeria has dropped by 55.34 per cent in the first quarter, January–March, 2021 to 19, according to data collated from recent reports of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC. The rig count, a major index of measuring activities in the upstream sector, had stood at 65 in the corresponding period of 2020 before sliding to 19, mainly due to the delay in the passage of the nation’s Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB, and coronavirus pandemic. A breakdown showed that Nigeria utilised six, seven, and six rigs in January, February, and March 2021, respectively, against 21, 23, and 21 used in the corresponding period of 2020. ....

By Udeme Akpan Despite its over 200 trillion standard cubic feet, scf of gas reserves, Nigeria’s daily gas production dropped to 7,574.68 million metric standard cubic feet, mmscf in 2020, based on data collated from the monthly reports of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC. Year-on-Year, YoY, the output produced by the Joint Ventures, JV, Production Sharing Contracts companies and Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, showed a drop of 4.43 per cent compared to 7,918.34 mmscf produced in the corresponding period of 2019. However, on Quarter on Quarter, QoQ, the nation recorded 7,99.93 mmscf in the first quarter (January – March) of 2020, indicating a decrease of 2.69 per cent compared to 8,218.91 produced in the corresponding period of 2019. ....
