Preston Crown Court hears driver David Logan killed the Flynn family

The family of a father and his two children who were killed by a drink driver while out on a Father’s Day walk have spoken of their 'tsunami of grief'.
Ex soldier David Logan claimed he ‘blacked out at the wheel’ as a result of a coughing fit moments before the crash, a court heard.
Logan, 48, has been jailed for 10 years and 10 months for causing the deaths of Joshua Flynn, 37, and his children Coby-Jay, 15, and Skylar, 12, on June 21 2020.
The family were walking their Yorkshire Terrier, Troy, in Abbey Road, Dalton, when Logan lost control of his Peugeot 206 convertible and mounted the pavement, colliding with the young family and hitting a tree.

Inquest probes death of Milnthorpe man knocked off his bike en route to work

A MAN from Milnthorpe died after being knocked off his bicycle on his way to work, an inquest has heard.
Joseph Eric Park, better known by his middle name, died at the age of 74 at the scene of the incident on Church Street in Milnthorpe on March 7, 2018.
In the early hours of the morning, the Haverflatts Lane resident was cycling to work at Low Sizergh Barn on the A6 when he was hit by a car driven by Nathan Holme, who was on his way to Lindale after completing a night shift, Cockermouth Coroner's Court was told.
Physical evidence suggested from a police report by PC Craig Irving of Cumbria Police’s collision investigation unit suggested that the bicycle had become trapped between the car and the kerb and that the collision occurred next to the pavement, conflicting with Mr Holme's account that Mr Park had come out into the road.

Cumbria Police set to receive a £6million funding increase next year

CUMBRIA Constabulary is set to receive an additional £6 million in its funding next year, thanks to the Conservative Government’s increase to police budgets.
Home Secretary Priti Patel has announced policing will receive up to £15.8 billion in 2021-22 – an increase of £636 million on last year.
This includes over £400 million recruit 20,000 extra police officers by 2023, delivering on the promise made by the Conservatives in last year’s General Election. Cumbria has already benefited from an additional fifty two officers.
The funding will be also be used to bolster counter-terrorism policing, including money for armed policing and more officers.
The Conservative Government has been determined to support the police throughout the coronavirus pandemic, as officers have worked tirelessly to keep communities safe. The Government has provided £30 million to help forces step up coronavirus enforcement and has reimbursed forces for all additional PPE purchased between March and July.
