In New Fairfield, the school district is doing a feasibility study to identify possible ways to use space that was created by the middle school as a result of the recently completed high school building project. School officials are looking into the viability of using the old high school gym and cafeteria to address needed space at the middle school. The Board of Education voted to authorize spending up to $20,000 for a feasibility study.
Following several reported break-ins and a car theft, police in New Fairfield today are urging residents there to be vigilant and take precautions to avoid being the next victim. A Putnam County man apparently didn’t want squirrels in his yard, so he spray painted them with toxic red paint. 62 year old Mark Kuhn is now facing charges, including three counts of poisoning an animal for trapping the squirrels, then covering them in red Rust Oleum paint, and then turning them loose about a quarter mile away. He claimed that when the squirrels came into his backyard, they made his dog bark, and by painting them he would know if the same ones were returning. In a ramped up effort to nab speeders and other violators on Route 7, police in New Milford want to add a few new tricks to their arsenal of weapons… specifically, automated traffic cameras. If the cameras are approved, it would mean drivers in New Milford could be issued a speeding ticket without actually being pulled over by police. The devices would capture images such as a speeder’s license plate, along with the date, time and location. Before they appear, a public hearing will be held at New Milford Town Hall on February 13 at 6:15pm.
