Ridgefield’s Community Emergency Response Team will offer a four-part course for future CERTs on September 12, 14, 19, and 21 from 7 to 9pm. Classes will be held on a first come basis and will be capped at twenty-five. CERT is a volunteer organization that serves the town in times of disaster, community emergencies and town-wide events such as the annual Main Street holiday lighting, the Fourth of July fireworks and the Ridgefield Triathlon. A proposal for development of so-called ‘affordable housing units’ in Ridgefield that would be known as Pond’s Edge will either be allowed or shot down at a meeting set for later today. By all indications so far, chances are it is not going to get the green light, as the Ridgefield Inland Wetlands Board reportedly has already prepared a “draft resolution of denial” due to concerns about the area’s location which is about 100 feet from some nearby wetlands. The board is expected to vote on the application at its meeting that is set for this evening at 7.

Following major energy efficiency upgrades to 12 community buildings, the Town of New Milford is now saving about 1.25 million kilowatt-hours of power annually. Working with Eversource and their contractor, Energy Systems Group, the town achieved that goal in approximately one year. The newest anchor tenant at Danbury Fair mall is Round 1 Bowling and Amusements. But before things ramp up, security issues are coming forward that have resulted in Round 1 proposing more guards to keep crowds in check… especially on the weekends. Round 1 however, has not included in that plan, any word of hiring city police officers to help do the job. The city’s zoning commission will meet today to decide whether or not Round 1 Bowling and Amusements has satisfied safety concerns so that they can be granted a liquor permit.

The Candlewood Lake Stewards have stopped at least 5 new invasives from entering Candlewood Lake on visiting boats and trailers about to launch. They now ask everyone to make absolutely certain that when they move their boat from lake to lake that they CLEAN, DRAIN, and DRY their entire boat and trailer before launching in a new lake… saying it’s possible that one careless boater can change the ecosystem of a lake forever!
