On Wednesday, April 26, the City of Danbury First Responders are teaming up with the American Red Cross for a friendly competition to see who can save the most lives by donating blood in the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive. Danbury Police, Fire, Emergency Management, and Health and Human Services Departments will go head to head to see who can recruit the most donors. Last year, the Danbury Battle of the Badges blood drive collected 102 donations . The blood drive will be held at the Danbury Fair Mall on the lower level across from Eddie Bauer from 10AM-6:30PM that day.

According to recently released figures, the Danbury Fair mall pays more property taxes than any other property in the city … a LOT more! In fact, the Danbury Square Mall pays more than the next four top-paying taxpayers on the list combined. Through just the first three quarters of the current fiscal year, the LLC that owns the mall has paid a staggering $5.7 million in property taxes to Danbury.

For the first time ever, a former Connecticut state trooper faces the potential loss of his police license. Former State Police Sgt. John McDonald… a 15 year veteran of the force… pleaded guilty to criminal charges and resigned in November 2021 amid two internal affairs probes following a crash back in 2019 that he is accused of causing while driving drunk. Two people were hurt. Now comes word that the Connecticut Police Officers Safety and Training Council is considering decertifying McDonald’s credentials. Vandalism in Norwalk that caused thousands of internet outages has resulted in two arrests. 26 year old Keith Geddings and 30 year old Jillian Persons… both of Ashville, North Carolina… were arrested on Saturday after an investigation into the cutting of some 2,000 fiber optic cables in Norwalk on March 24th that cut off the internet for about 40,000 Optimum customers in Fairfield County. Both now face a long list of charges. Geddings and Persons are each now being held on $200,000 bond.

A Newtown psychologist has been ordered to pay nearly $80,000 in restitution after pleading guilty to healthcare fraud… specifically Medicaid fraud. 66 year old Jeannie Pasacreta billed Medicaid for hundreds of fraudulent claims according to the state Division of Criminal Justice. Pasacreta is a psychologist and advanced registered nurse. Now, she will be excluded from certain federally funded health programs.
