Editor of the Reformer: Dear Legislative Leaders, In May of 2016 I was diagnosed with Parkinsonâs disease. Since them I have witnessed a degradation in mobility and cognitive functioning. I am fortunate to be living in a time where drugs and exercise have a combined effect at slowing the diseaseâs progression; however, no cure exists. With the above in mind I would like the state of Vermont to begin the collection of data as it relates to the tracing of Parkinsonâs. As outlined in âThe Rise of Parkinsonâs Diseaseâ (E. Ray Dorsey, Todd Sherer, Michael S. Okun, Bastiaan R. Bloem for American Scientist) research reveals the rise of Parkinsonâs in rural areas likely elevated by the presence of the following: paraquat, rotenone and trichlorethylene. The first two are used in agricultural applications while the latter is used in âwashing away grease, cleaning silicon wafers, removing spots in dry cleaning.â Current evidence exists ....
COVID-19 vaccine should be recommended to patients with Parkinson’s disease, experts say Patients with Parkinson s disease (PD) and healthcare professionals caring for them have expressed concerns about the COVID-19 vaccine s efficacy and safety in the specific context of PD and its symptomatic treatment. In a commentary just published in the Journal of Parkinson s Disease, a set of experts addresses these concerns from an evidence-based perspective. Their conclusion is that COVID-19 vaccination with approved vaccines should be recommended to persons with PD, unless there is a specific contraindication. The arrival of these vaccines has created hope for people with PD, as this can help to mitigate their risk of becoming infected with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which can lead to serious, life-threatening disease, at least among those with more advanced PD, explains lead author Bastiaan R.
