Oklahoman Residents in the John F. Kennedy neighborhood are hoping they may finally get some relief from decades of explosions at a neighboring recycling plant with a plan proposed to build a 30-foot-high sound absorbing wall. Hundreds of explosions have rocked the historically Black neighborhood just east of downtown for decades as Jim Crow era zoning allows heavy industrial use, including vehicle shredding, by the neighboring Paris-based Derichebourg Recycling and locally owned Standard Iron and Metal. Derichebourg, 100 N Bath Ave., is making changes following a months-long investigation by The Oklahoman and an inquiry led by Assistant City Manager Aubrey McDermid that required the scrapyards to provide a plan on how to lessen their impact on their neighbors. ....
