Police are looking more into the relationship between a Battle Creek woman who was found dead in her home during a welfare check and the suspect who is now in custody.
Calhoun County housing authorities recently received more than $1 million in funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Capital Fund Program.
The Battle Creek Housing Commission was awarded $726,936 and the Albion Housing Commission was awarded $361,118.
The federal money can be used to fund projects to build, renovate or modernize the public housing in the communities. It can also be used for large-scale improvements, such as replacing roofs or making energy-efficient upgrades to heating systems or installing water conservation measures.
The grant money is received annually, but Lee Talmadge, executive director of the Battle Creek Housing Commission, said that the amount can change drastically from year to year.
