Pink Mountain fire grows to 3,000 hectares, HWY 97 closed near Buckinghorse River

“Due to the dry condition and wind, it actually did merge into one. We did see exponential growth in those two fires. Yesterday, they were at 100 hectares each,” said a PGFC representative. DriveBC says Highway 97 is closed between Sikanni Chief Road and Prophet River Road for 59.3 km (112 km north of Wonowon to 114 km south of Fort Nelson). A ten-hectare fire was also detected Tuesday near Trutch, which is less than a kilometre from the highway. “All we can do is keep an eye on it. The fire activity is really high, so it’s too dangerous to send crews in.”
