In June, wind turbines produced more than one billion kilowatt hours for the first time. The Global Wind Energy Council aims to achieve a global wind power capacity of eight terawatt hours by 2050. It took more than 40 years to reach this milestone, Backwell explained. But with the massive expansion of wind energy, the next Terawatt hour is likely to be reached in less than seven years. The wind industry has reached a landmark figure of 1 TW of globally installed capacity.
