Fish in the region are normally sold to a shoreside processing plant but the floating processor, dubbed the Hannah, is designed to freeze, ship, and store any salmon it hauls on board this summer. The 400 foot barge will be able to buy fish from smaller vessels while remaining at sea.
“I will grieve the loss of my brother in Christ and true friend,” Tobin Bolter’s father-in-law said.
“We’re angry, and we’re confused, and we’re sad,” Ada County Sheriff Matt Clifford said. “But the showing of support from the public has given us so much hope.”
Two companies plan to launch a floating processor capable of processing, storing, and shipping huge quantities of salmon.
Circle Seafoods and Northline Seafoods are hard at work building out floating processors they plan to debut in time for Alaska’s salmon runs in 2024.
