New Delhi:
West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra on Thursday refuted BJP president Amit Shah’s claim that the Narendra Modi-led government had given West Bengal Rs 3.6 lakh crore and Rs 2.85 crore on gross level.
The BJP chief made the claim at a public rally at Purulia district on Thursday, where he stated that despite the funding from the Centre, the people haven’t been able to enjoy any of the benefits and the BJP will oust the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) from the state in the next year’s Lok Sabha election.

Congress Ministers' omission from GoM on GST exemption to COVID-19 relief material 'deliberate': Bhupesh Baghel

Congress-ruled States are also part of the GST Council, points out Baghel
Chief Ministers of the Congress-ruled Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh have questioned the Union government’s decision to not include Finance Ministers from the Congress-ruled States in the Group of Ministers (GoM) formed to examine the issue of GST exemption to COVID-19 relief material.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is the convenor of this eight-member committee. The other members are ministers from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala, Odisha, Telangana and U.P.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot wrote on Twitter, “The Union Government has set up a GoM following the GST Council Meeting of May 28th, 2021. A deliberate attempt has been made to keep the principal Opposition party, the Congress, that has three members in the GST Council out of the GoM.”

Goods And Services Tax (GST) Council To Meet On May 28, Announces Finance Ministry

States have been pressing for waiver of GST on critical items such as vaccines.
Amid a growing chorus over the GST Council meeting not being convened for over seven months, the Union Finance Ministry on Saturday announced that the next meeting of the panel that decides on taxes on goods and services will be held on May 28. After over a dozen central and state levies such as excise duty, service tax and VAT were subsumed in a nationwide Goods and Services Tax (GST) in 2017, the Council, headed by Union Finance Minister and including representatives of all states and union territories, was mandated to meet every quarter to deliberate on issues at hand.

FM Nirmala Sitharaman to chair 43rd GST Council meet on May 28

The Goods and Services Tax Council (GST) will meet on May 28, after a gap of more than six months as country battles the ravaging second Covid-19 wave. Several states had urged Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to convene a GST Council meeting at the earliest, to rework compensation shortfall and borrowing requirement and provide tax relief on Covid-19 related goods.
"Union FM Nirmala Sitharaman will chair the 43rd GST Council meeting via video conferencing at 11 AM in New Delhi on 28th May 2021...." Sitharaman's office tweeted on Saturday.
Other key issues pending before the Council include rationalisation of GST rate slabs, correction of inverted duty on certain items and inclusion of petroleum products, etc.
