The Palike is planning to take 5,100 hand-written registers mainly from the Revenue Department and digitise them. Often hand-written papers are vulnerable to the test of time and sometimes not legible. The new digital version will provide for easier readability and preservation for longer intervals.
On Friday, Bescom employees, holding placards, took out awareness rallies at all its subdivisions across the city. Though it is not clear whether the Bescom had taken permission from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), banners had been put up at important locations in the city appealing the public to inform them about short circuits and broken electrical wires by contacting the helpline 1912.
The BESCOM survey showed that in some areas, like new neighborhoods and slums, things are worse. There are issues with maintenance at places where power comes from, like poles and transformers. Wires are hanging loose, and there are boxes that kids can reach up to. According to the survey, the south part of the city has the most dangerous spots, with over 10,277, followed by the west with 4,572, east 1,490, and the north had 452.
Expressing concern over the negligence of the authorities concerned in fixing the pothole problems, K Surendra Babu, another resident, said the condition of the roads at Somasundarapalya highlights the need for a robust system to track and address civic problems.
This makes me wonder about Bengaluru which boasts several sobriquets to its credit that have made it famous; but the sobriquet of being the ‘wired city’ is a blot. Now, with authorities, both the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and BESCOM, taking action to cut all the wires, most of these wires are left on the road and can sometimes pose potential danger to pedestrians as well,” said Girish Naik, a techie.
