Trustees in Bethalto are moving forward with approving events at Central Park this year. On Monday, the board gave the go-ahead to public concerts sponsored by the Bethalto Spirit Club on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer and the Fire Department’s request for the use of Central Park for the traditional Labor Day weekend Bethalto Homecoming. Mayor Alan Winslow tells The Big Z the board also recognized Civic Memorial High School’s senior class. Click here for Winslow's comments The Bethalto Village Board on Monday approved the demolition of derelict properties at 544 Park Drive, 1409-1415 West Drive, 58 N. Williams Street, and 731 Dugger Street.

Bethalto Police will soon be listening to a dispatcher from Wood River. The Bethalto Village Board last week approved an agreement with Wood River for emergency and other communication services. This week the Wood River City Council did the same. Wood River Police Chief Brad Wells tells The Big Z they have been dispatching in recent years for Hartford, Roxana, and East Alton. Click here for Wells' comments He says with the state mandate to consolidate call centers, it was an inevitability this would have eventually happened anyway, so this decision lets all parties get out in front of the mandate.

Following direction at the state level several years ago, communities statewide have been consolidating their 911 dispatching operations, and Bethalto is now following suit. Bethalto Mayor Alan Winslow tells The Big Z the best move for them was to move ahead now.
