The first episode of "American Bandstand" was filmed in a studio on 46th and Market streets in West Philadelphia on Aug. 5, 1957. The show, hosted by Dick Clark, captured the attention of teenagers around the country during a time when media was much less fragmented. It helped many musicians gain popularity, including the likes of Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly and Sam Cooke during its 37-year run.
