During the 1910 season, the Chicago Tribune regularly published funny, sometimes hilarious, poems that it said were written by Frank Schulte, the Cubs' colorful, hard-hitting, lefty-swinging right.

They finished second, 6.5 games behind the Pirates. They won 104 games again in 1910. They won the pennant by 13 games over the Giants and 17.5 over the Pirates. Go figure! When the Cubs had played the Tigers in the World Series in 1908, it ended, in 5 games, on Oct. 14. The 1910 Series, in which they faced the Athletics, did not even begin until Oct. 17. The Cubs needed a 10-inning win in Game 4 just to extend the series by a day, to Oct. 23. But that didn t prevent the Cubs from continuing to play after the Series ended or at least try to play.
