More sea cows deaths have been documented through the first two months of the year than were recorded during those same two months in 2019 and 2020 combined, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission records. © Andrew West/The News-Press, The News-Press Manatees are becoming a regular sighting at Manatee Park and on the Orange River in east Fort Myers. Cooler temperatures in Southwest Florida cause the manatees to find refuge at the park because the water is warmed by the Florida Power and Light plant nearby. The manatees travel back and forth from the Gulf of Mexico and the estuary to feed on sea grasses. Photographed on on Friday, January 15, 2021.
