An Allerdale councillor is calling for swift action after part of a public footpath was closed due to safety fears. A warning was put out to the public on Saturday by Allerdale council, asking people to avoid walking by the river Derwent, at Barepot after fast moving water began washing away part of the dub wall. It said: “For safety reasons, people are being urged to avoid walking by the River Derwent at Barepot in Workington, due to further damage and undermining of the river bank in the area.
