Bison could soon return to the Great Plains and other areas of the U.S. through a new restoration and resilience framework, incorporating native tribes to restore the iconic species.
“The Department’s historic funding for bison has been de minimis, and today’s Secretarial Order starts to correct that historic inequity," said Rep. Marvin Weatherwax of Browning.
The Interior Department said Friday that it was taking new steps to restore the declining American bison population.
