The Keiki Fishing Derby took place on Sept. 16 at Laupāhoehoe Point Beach Park in Laupāhoehoe. About 80 keiki from the Hāmākua district, ranging in age from 3 to 17, sought to catch the heaviest fish.
May 5, 2021 at 5:30 am Officer Blake Ragocos was recently honored by the Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawai‘i as Officer of the Month for February 2021. As the only School Resource Officer in the Hāmākua District, Officer Ragocos is responsible for law-related counseling, education, and law enforcement working with school staff to create a safe environment.
