CPD swears in new officer

COLUMBUS, 
Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) welcomed a new officer on Tuesday. Ryan Salisbury, 33, was accompanied by his family when he was sworn in by Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop at the Board of Works and Public Safety meeting at Columbus City Hall.
Salisbury attended Bloomington High School South and then graduated from Indiana University with a double major in Criminal Justice and Psychology. Post-college, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps for six years. After the military, Salisbury served as an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department patrol officer for over three years.
After taking his oath, Salisbury now has an orientation period and begins the CPD field training program. ....

Staff Sgt. Damon Wilson Arrives As Recruiter – WBIW

(UNDATED) – Army Staff Sgt. Damon Wilson arrived for duty as a recruiter with the Metro South Recruiting Company, Indianapolis Army Recruiting Battalion, Indiana.
Staff Sgt. Damon Wilson
Previously, he served as a squad leader at Fort Stewart, Georgia. Throughout his career, he’s served as a gunner in New York and Kentucky and been deployed to Korea and Afghanistan. His military awards include an Army commendation medal and two Army achievement medals. 
He is a 2003 graduate of Bloomington High School South, Bloomington, Indiana. He earned an associate degree in 2010 from Ivy Tech Community College, Bloomington.

IU researchers receive $2.9 million grant to expand work on subconcussive impacts
Every year, nearly 2.5 million U.S. high school athletes participate in contact sports. Each of these athletes sustains an average of 650 subconcussive head impacts in a single season, hits that can negatively affect brain health.
A $2.9 million grant from the National Institutes of Health will help researchers at Indiana University determine whether, and to what extent, repetitive subconcussive head impacts impacts that do not trigger clinically detectable signs and symptoms of concussion negatively affect brain health in adolescents. If applied repeatedly, subconcussive impacts can trigger subclinical cellular and molecular disruptions in brain cells. Ultimately, the IU research will help establish safety guidelines for young athletes exposed to head impacts. ....
