THIS has been a challenging year for children, with schooling disrupted and sports clubs closed. Now a group of local volunteers has vowed to make their club bigger and better than ever; opening up grassroots sport to youngsters once again.
Volunteers at the Birkenshaw Blue Dogs Rugby League Club, which plays out of East Bierley, are marking a decade of success in the community, with the help of two star names from the world of rugby.
Professional rugby players Liam Kirk of Oldham RLFC and challenge cup-winning Leeds Rhinos’ Chev Walker are bringing their experience from more than 300 career appearances in top-flight rugby to the team, and have pledged to bring “Super League tactics” to local rugby. ....
