Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Creta, and more: Top diesel automatic cars

Updated Apr 11, 2021 | 11:30 IST
Increasing demand for automatic gearboxes in India has encouraged carmakers to offer the option of automatic transmissions with even diesel cars. Take a look at some diesel automatic cars that you can buy here.
Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Creta, and more: Top diesel automatic cars | Part 2
The transition to BS6 emission norms has made diesel cars substantially expensive because of the extensive changes diesel engines require to meet the stricter emission norms. Along with this, the narrowing price difference between petrol and diesel in the country is pushing buyers away from diesel cars. However, there are still many buyers in the country who prefer diesel cars because of their high fuel efficiency and performance. And of late, there has been an increase in the demand for diesel cars with automatic transmission as it promises great convenience, especially over long routes. Now, if you too are in the favour of buying a new diesel car with an automatic gearbox, then Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Aura, Tata Nexon, and Kia Sonet are the top five cheapest options. But what if you are willing to spend more? Then, you can choose out of these five diesel cars with automatic gearboxes.

XUV 300 Petrol AMT Review: Best Vehicle In The Mahindra Portfolio

XUV 300 petrol AMT review: Best vehicle in the Mahindra portfolio
First-drive impressions of the new Mahindra model that has joined the booming SUV market in India.
Official Mahindra XUV300 Image
The Mahindra XUV 3oo has a 5-star Global NCAP crash test rating, which is enough to put it at the top of any purchase list if you ask me. It has other compelling plus points – a punchy, entertaining turbo-petrol engine, a distinctive design, assured handling and a long feature set, among others.
Indeed, I think it’s the best vehicle in the Mahindra portfolio, and the two factors that could have perhaps been counted against it were its rather high price and the absence of an automatic in the petrol range.

Mahindra XUV300 Petrol AMT: Observations after a day's drive

In addition to these, for the AMT, you get some unique features like ‘Drive & Reverse Lock Out’ which restricts sudden shifts between reverse and drive modes if the vehicle speed is above 5 kmph and ‘creep disable on door opening’ which essentially prevents the vehicle from moving if the door is open.
Mahindra XUV300 Petrol AMT Review
The Mahindra XUV300 is a car that we were mighty impressed with, when it launched two years ago. It was a premium crossover with a good set of engines and sorted handling characteristics, but didn’t have any automatic transmission options at the time of launch. In September 2019, Mahindra introduced the diesel AMT automatic, while this petrol AMT has been launched recently. Not a great plan! Here's a detailed article by
