Are school uniforms really worth it? According to one Bayonne mom, the answer is no.
The conversation, which comes up nearly annually, was prompted at the July meeting of the Bayonne Board of Education by resident and parent Lisa Downey, who is calling for a change in the district’s uniform policy.
Downey wrote multiple letters to the board before following up during the public portion of the July meeting. Downey wants parents to be able to spend their money on uniforms at stores that they choose, possibly saving money in the process, and not be forced to shop for uniforms at specific stores. ....

The Bayonne Board of Education has voted to table part of a resolution That would revise a board policy regarding “controversial issues.”
The move came at the request of Bayonne Education Association (BEA) President Gene Woods. Woods took issue with some of the language in that policy at the July 27 board meeting.
Reviewing policy changes
At the June meeting, the board announced it would soon vote on changes to bylaws, guidelines, and policies and listed them online for the public to view. According to Woods, during their review of the changes, members of the BEA took issue with revisions to policy 6144 about “controversial issues.” ....

The Bayonne Board of Education has voted to keep its current leadership. At the Jan. 5 meeting, Trustee Maria Valado was re-elected to President, and Christopher Munoz was re-elected to Vice President.
The board voted unanimously for both Valado and Munoz, 8-0. Trustee Ava Finnerty was absent for medical reasons and did not vote.
Two new trustees were sworn in at the meeting, David “Doc” Watson and Pam Sclafene. Valado, Munoz, and Watson won their seats in the 2020 election, running under the “Together We Can” slate endorsed by Mayor James Davis and the entire city council. ....

Bayonne Board of Education Trustee Joseph Broderick has resigned. He was not present at the last board meeting of the year, but explained the reason for his departure in his resignation letter.
“Due to my recent move from Bayonne, I unfortunately have to leave the Board of Education,” he wrote. “I want to thank you for all your help and guidance. I also want to thank central office, all the Superintendents …, the Business Administrators and especially all the board members past and present I was privileged to serve with. Wishing you all the best.” ....
