As the Castlegate House Gallery in Cockermouth prepares to open its doors to the public again, it has managed to secure several exciting exhibits. The gallery, which recently received acclaim from The Times' critic Rachel Campbell-Johnston as one of the galleries people must see, has managed to secure eight new portraits this week from Richard Fitton. A Cumbrian art gallery has been named by The Times’ chief art critic in a national Top Ten list of galleries to visit when lockdown eases next week. Castlegate House Gallery in Cockermouth is just one of three galleries outside London to be highlighted by The Times’s Rachel Campbell-Johnston as she encourages art-lovers to get out again and go face-to-face with great art. Staff at Castlegate House gallery in Cockermouth are counting down the days until they can reopen their doors. They will be reopening "after what seems an age" on April 15 and have been preparing with much on show, including a room dedicated to eight rare early works from the late Bob Crossley, all dating from 1958-61 - displaying British mid-century modernism. Bob was born in Rochdale, before moving to St Ives in Cornwall, where he developed a strong colour abstraction, becoming more figurative during 1958 to 61.
