Apart from the Israel-Hamas war, the embers of the old conflict in the Middle East are now heating up again. Some have become new conflicts.

The Islamic State group's affiliate in the region has in the past carried out attacks often targeting Shiites, whom IS considers to be apostates. Over the weekend, the Islamic State group claimed responsibility for a minibus explosion in western Kabul that killed at least five people.

An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) simply identified as Nurudeen on Thursday reportedly died after stepping on an explosive at the scene of a vandalised electricity tower along Jakana-Auno Road in Borno State.   Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, reported on his verified X handle that the security operative died after stepping on a minor line while inspecting the vandalised electricity tower.

Witnesses said dozens of civil protection vehicles had reached the area, but Guinean authorities did not immediately comment on the situation.

Needless to say, those who thought it was a good idea to post negative comments and complain on social media about Fort Sill quickly regretted it. You'd think they'd know better.
