Giving children justice and a voice to combat abuse

More than two decades ago, not long after I started at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Brevard (CACB), I was jolted when I came across a case of a boy whose parents were drug dealers.
The boy told me in great detail how to prepare a “blunt” marijuana cigarette sprinkled with cocaine, and he went on to paint a picture of other drug activity within the home and adults having sex in his presence.
The boy was only 5, and he should have been watching the Cartoon Network or riding a bike with friends and thinking about going to kindergarten. Instead, here he was, an up-and-coming expert in rolling blunts with a front-row seat to the local illegal drug trade.
