The Supreme Court will examine the validity of the Centre's 2021 notification expanding the BSF's jurisdiction. The notification increased the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force from 15 km to 50 km. The court will adjudicate the legal issues raised by the Punjab government, including whether the increase in BSF's jurisdiction is arbitrary and whether it constitutes unconstitutional interference in the legislative domain of the state.

BSF stands for Border Security Force. Since 1965, the BSF has been a part of the Central Armed Police Force, reporting to the MHA of the GOI.The BSF now has a sanctioned strength of 270,363 troops.
