A recent change at Sellafield will save the UK taxpayer millions of pounds. This follows as a new way of taking intermediate level waste out of the plant’s Pile Fuel Storage Pond was developed. This means that material can be removed six years earlier than expected, saving money for the UK taxpayer. Originally, it was thought this waste would need to be taken out via a new processing facility called the Box Encapsulation Plant.
